Garnett Franklin Helton, Jr., a resident of Ozark, passed away at a local hospital on Saturday, March 30, 2019. He was 70.


Military honors will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Sunset Memorial Park Pavilion.


Mr. Helton was born on November 29, 1948 in Saltville, Virginia and lived the early years of his life there. He was a 1968 graduate of R. B. Worthy High School where he played football, participated in wrestling and played in the band. He would then be drafted into the US Army where he served for 20 years until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Helton was a Vietnam Veteran and did 2 four-year tours in Germany and one in Korea. He was employed with Ft. Rucker as a helicopter mechanic and inspector for 31 years until his retirement in 2015.


Mr. Helton was preceded in death by his son, Mark Franklin Helton, and by his parents, Garnett and Maxine Helton.


Survivors include his wife, Patricia Helton; his son, Adam Fletcher Helton; his granddaughter, Samantha Helton; his brother, James Leonard Helton; and by his sisters, Jackie (Larry) Russell and Betty (Dan) Maiden.
