Mr. Gene “O” Phillips passed peacefully at his son’s home, surrounded by loved ones on October 21st, he was 82. 


He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Mixsons Crossroads.


Funeral services will be held at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home this Wednesday, October 25, 2017 with visitation at 1pm, Service at 2pm and procession to follow.


In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 


Born the 9th of December 1934 to the late Thomas Newton and Ruby Phillips, Gene attended Abbeville High School before enlisting in the Air Force where he served for 4 years. He then went on to work as an Avionics Electrician at Ft. Rucker where he built a 39 year career before retiring. 


In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by Daughter Nancy Philips, brothers, Maynard and Ernest, Sisters Madge Fleming, Janell Phillips, and Edna Grace Bryan.


Survivors include his wife Geraldine Phillips, Daughter Cindy Smith (Troy), Sons Clifton Gene Phillips (Phyllis), Mike Phillips, beloved grandchildren Sean Collins, Stacy Watkins, Justin Phillips, Casey Hyatt, Lance Phillips, Candice Phillips, Logan Smith as well as 11 great grand-children and 3 great great grand-children. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and special friends to include Bruiser and Alice Pilcher.


Special thanks to friend and care-giver Linda York who loved and cared for him as if he were her own father.


His love for God, music, and laughter resonated throughout our entire family. He will greatly missed.
