GEORGE  STRICKLAND 

ABBEVILLE. . .George Strickland, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday morning, June 18, 2017, at his home. He was 78.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Stephen Doss officiating. Burial will follow in the Hutto Cemetery, near Abbeville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Hutto Cemetery Fund, c/o Vivian Jones, 1581 County Road 81, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mr. Strickland was born and reared in Dale County, near the Echo Community, son of the late Piety Jane Strickland. He lived in the Thrasher Bottom Community, near Abbeville, most of his adult lifetime. Mr. Strickland was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He was retired from the Skipper Hardwood Company. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Strickland Josh Strickland.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Virginia Dean Rogers Strickland; a daughter, Angela Paul (Danny), Abbeville; two grandchildren, Amanda Martin (Travis), and Jamie Paul (Sondra); four great-grandchildren, Haleigh Martin, Gracie Martin, Kaelyn Paul and Dylan Paul.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Kevin Strickland, Lawrence Rogers, Wayne Birchler, Earl Turner, David Price and Buster Volf.
