GISCENE  RISTER  WEAVER


HEADLAND. . . Giscene Rister Weaver, a resident of Headland, died early Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2017, in the Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. She was 90.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Larry Rister and Ashley Ried officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Monday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blanche R. Solomon Memorial Library, 17 Park Street, Headland, AL 36345 or to the Blackwood Cemetery Fund, c/o Betty Jean Chancey, 2211 County Road 83, South, Headland, AL 36345.
            Mrs. Weaver was born and reared in the Blackwood Community of Dale County, daughter of the late Webster Lee Rister and Pastoria Brackin Rister. A 1945 graduate of Midland City High School, she received a B. S. Degree in Elementary Education from Troy State University and a M. S. Degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University. Mrs. Weaver also received an AA Certification in Special Education.


            Mrs. Weaver retired as the Supervisor of Exceptional Children for Henry County. In earlier years, she was employed by the Henry County Board of Education as a teacher in the Hebron School and the Headland Elementary School. She later taught English and History at Headland High School.


            Mrs. Weaver was a member of the Headland United Methodist Church and its Pearl Haynes Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the National Education Association, Alabama Education Association and the Henry County Education Association. Mrs. Weaver was also a member of the Alabama Retired Teachers Association, the Henry County Retired Teachers Association, the Blackwood Homemakers Club, the Alabama Association of Psychometrics and received a sixty-year pin from Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felton Weaver, three sisters, Quintalene Rister, Lois Branch and Mildred Hinson and two brothers, Maurice Rister and Philemon Rister.


            Surviving relatives include a sister, Ella Verna Givens (Ralph), and a brother, Neil Rister (Pat), all of Headland; nieces and nephews, Charlotte Nichols (Ron),  Julius Givens (Norene), Mark Givens (Beth), David Branch (Natalia), James Lee Hinson (Eleanor), Larry Rister (Sara), Lamar Rister (Jane), Cindy Lasseter, (Pete), Lisa McGriff (Lan), Phil Rister, Linda Price, and Laura Aplin (Albert).
