           Gloria Buie Moring, a resident of Headland, Alabama died Thursday morning, July 13, 2017, after a brief illness.


            Funeral services will be held at the Headland United Methodist Church, 103 West King Street, Headland, Alabama, on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Misty Barrett and Bill Barnes officiating. A reception for friends and family will follow the service in the family life center of the Church. A private burial will be held at Gardens of Memory in Headland. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            Mrs. Moring was born and raised in Dothan, a daughter of the late Carlton Buie and Grace Murphy Buie. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and received a B.S. degree in Education from Samford University and Master’s degree in Education from Troy University. Mrs. Moring was a beloved third grade teacher at Houston Academy for 25 years. She previously taught in the Dothan School System and at Headland Elementary School. She was a devoted teacher who cherished the friendships with former students and parents that she maintained throughout her life.


            Mrs. Moring was a member of the Headland United Methodist Church for the past 57 years, where she served in various leadership positions, including as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of the Katherine Oates Friendship Sunday School Class, and a member of the Eunice Johnson Circle. She was also former President and active member of the Headland Study Club.


             Mrs. Moring was preceded in death by her husband, David Carl Moring, and a brother, Perry Carlton “Buddy” Buie.


            Survivors include daughters, DeLynn Moring Zell (Lee), Birmingham, Alabama, and Carla Moring, Nashville, Tennessee; grandson, David Michael Zell, Birmingham; brother, Jerry Buie (Susie), Lilburn, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Gloria Seay Buie, Abbeville, and Annette Farmer, Dothan; and nieces and nephews, Ben Buie (Pam), Laura Buie Melof (Jeff), and John Buie, Atlanta, Michael Buie, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Jennifer Buie Townsend (Greg), Alexandria, VA, Steve Farmer, Dothan, and Stan Farmer, Cottonwood, Alabama; along with 10 great nieces and nephews.


            Durell Whiddon, Jeff Alford, Dr. Roland Bridges, Dr. Leon Hamrick, Bobby Hamil, Joe McClenney, John Mellown, and Jon Mueller will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include current and former members of the Headland Study Club.


            Memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church, 103 West King Street, Headland, Alabama 36345.
