Grace Lee Livingston was born into this world August 29,1929 and passed out of it December 6, 2017 she was 88 years old.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 pm prior to the service.

Mrs. Livingston was born to Johnny B. Marler and Mary (Rushing) Marler of the Zoar community in Coffee County Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Eddie B, and Edlow Marler, and two sisters Maurine McInnis and Ann Marler. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Herring Jr. and Billy Joe Livingston. She experienced almost a century of American history. She lived through the era from World War II and all the wars that followed till now, and experienced the good times and hard times that America and the south had to offer. She lost her husband Robert Herring tragically in the late fifties leaving her a widow with three children to raise. She married Billy Joe Livingston in 1962 that began 44 years of love and devotion. He was an Alabama State Trooper, she was a devoted wife and mother and followed Billy through several moves from Lafayette, Montgomery, Huntsville and back to Dothan as his career advanced retiring as Captain of the Alabama Bureau of Investigations (ABI). She was so proud of him. Grace was the epitome of southern charm and grace and loved her family above all else. She was witty, quick with a smile and a warm greeting and liked nothing better than to sit at the kitchen table or out on the patio just to talk and visit. She loved dressing up and going out to eat. She often said growing up on a rural farm having nothing to play with, her and her sisters would play house with chards of broken plates and being she liked high heels she would make her own from snuff cans tied to the bottom of cigar boxes. She joked she should have got a patent on them. She remained strongly independent living at home with her devoted dog Chico who she loved as much as a child. Her life was almost nine decades of Family, love, laughter, dear friends and strong bonds of faith and devotion.

Survivors include three children, Robert Lamar Herring and his wife, Sherry, James Larry Herring and his wife, Karen, and Shelia Dianne Herring Helms and her husband, Mike; four grandchildren, Robert Herring and his wife, Brianna, Melissa Herring, Jaime Herring Kidd, and Larry Helms; three great-grandchildren, Nikole Herring, Landon Herring, and Shelby Kidd; numerous nieces and nephews.
