Harold Mervin Cutler, 79, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away at home June 4, 2018, after a brief illness.


Harold was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania May 24, 1939 to Abraham and Sylvia Cutler. Harold graduated from Valley Forge in 1957 and attended Penn State. Harold worked in the egg industry for over 60 years, starting with the family business, Cutler Eggs in Philadelphia, which was started by Harold’s grandfather, Hyman Cutler in 1890.


Harold moved to Dothan form Philadelphia in 1972 when Cutler Egg Products expanded and opened a plant in Abbeville, Alabama where he served as president until 2001. During his tenure in the egg business, he served as Chairman of the United Egg Association from 1992 – 1994. In 1999, he was honored as Eggman of the Year by the UEA. Harold was involved in the community with work and board membership of Landmark Park. He was a faithful member of Temple Emanu-El where he served in several capacities including president and treasurer.


He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Sylvia Cutler, a sister, Leba Judith Cutler and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Williford.


He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sarah Helon Cutler, Sons – Jeff Cutler (Nan), Alan Cutler (Saundra), Vic Hollis (Nina), daughter Carol Hollis Hill (Michael), grandchildren-Alex Cutler Matthews (Matt), Libby Cutler, Harrison Hill, Sarah Hill, Juliana Hollis, Elizabeth Hollis, a brother-in-law, Grady Williford, a niece-Joya Wallace (Bill), nephews-Joseph Cutler, Henry Williford (Anna), John Williford (Christy) and several great nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.


Services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Rabbi Lynn Goldsmith officiating.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Temple Emanu-El, 188 North Park, Dothan, Alabama 36323.
