Hazel Elizabeth (Bowden) Dukes, after a long illness, passed away peacefully Friday, May 12, 2017 at her home in Enterprise, Alabama, surrounded by her grandchildren.  It was her 85th birthday.  She was the third child of Charlie and Winnie Dell Bowden.  She would live in Elba her teenage years and then move to Florida, where she met her future husband, Arthur.  Hazel and Arthur were married in 1949 and moved to Jackson, Mississippi shortly thereafter, where they lived the next 45 years.  To this union, a tiny baby girl, Elizabeth Dell (fondly called Liz) was born on January 28, 1960.

In keeping with Mrs. Dukes wishes, she has been cremated with memorial services to follow at a later date. Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise is in charge.

Hazel had a powerful sense of work ethics, which was a life-long trait.  She worked multiple jobs while in Jackson and eventually found a career with Bell Telephone, where she worked for 30 years.  After retirement, her talents turned to crafts.  Her love of crafts would lead her to establishing a craft market, which became one of the largest craft markets in Jackson.

As Hazel and Arthur aged, they moved back to Elba and eventually Enterprise, Alabama.  During the five years, her health began to decline and she spent considerable time in hospital.  The last two years, she was home bound and cared for by her grandchildren and hospice care.

Mrs. Dukes was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, daughter Liz, parents Charlie and Winnie Dell Bowden; brother, Paul Bowden, Phenix City, Al., and sister Mary Snyder, Niceville, Fl.  Mrs. Dukes is survived by her grandchildren, CJ and Ann, Enterprise, Al., brothers Charles Bowden and Robert Bowden, Elba, Al., sisters Carolyn Blackmon and Catherine Young, Elba, Al., and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Mrs. Dukes.
