Henry Leon “Doc” Holliday, 82, passed from this life on Sunday, January 22, 2017. 


 


Funeral services will be held at New Brockton United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Craig Bailey and Rev. Ben McKee officiating. Interment will follow at Baggett’s Chapel Methodist Church, Repton, Alabama, at 2:00 p.m. with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  A visitation will be held at Sorrell’s Funeral Home, Enterprise, Alabama, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.


 


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Brockton United Methodist Church, 118 Dawkins Street, New Brockton, AL  36351.


 


He was born August 31, 1934, at Patsburg, Alabama. Leon loved his family, his church, his country, his hunt club and his air traffic control career and colleagues.  He served in the U. S. Army from 1953 until 1965.  He then became an air traffic controller at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he spent his career.  He was active at New Brockton United Methodist Church for many years, serving as Treasurer and on many other boards and committees.  Leon earned his private pilot’s license, and loved to fly.  He also loved to hunt and fish, and spent many hours with friends and family enjoying these activities.


 


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister Lila Graham.


 


He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sallie Faye Holliday; his daughter Julia Lynn  (Wayne) LaRue; his son Steven Leon (Angelia) Holliday; and beloved grandchildren Steven Brandon (Katherine) Holliday, Wesley Erin Dietrich, William Garrett LaRue, and Sarah Lynn Holliday.  He also leaves behind brothers Jerry and Byron Holliday, and sister Linda Vines. 


 


Active pallbearers will be Wayne LaRue, Will LaRue, Nick Maddox, Ken English, Wilson Mobley, Donnie Byrd, Gerald Peacock, Tom Heisner and Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Benton, and Floyd Wambles.
