MIDLAND CITY…Horace “Bubba” Bruce Hancock, a resident of the Mt. Enon Community, near Midland City, died Friday afternoon, September 22, 2017, in a Dothan hospital, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident which occurred near his home. He was 65.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 25, 2017, in the Mt. Enon Baptist Church, 231 County Road 515, Midland City, AL 36350, with Reverend Kenneth Preston and Reverend Colt Hudson officiating and special music to be provided by Reverend Guy Causey. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Tim Sewell officiating. Holman Mortuaries is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary in Abbeville.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Echo Volunteer Fire Department, 11687 Alabama Highway 27, Newville, AL 36353.


            Mr. Hancock was a native of Phenix City and was reared in the Wills Crossroads Community, near Abbeville. He was a 1971 graduate of Abbeville High School and served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. Mr. Hancock formerly lived in Ozark and Montgomery before moving to the Mt. Enon Community.  Mr. Hancock was retired as Chief of Fleet Equipment with the State of Alabama Forestry Commission in Montgomery. In earlier years, he served as Forest Ranger in Dale County. He was instrumental in the founding of volunteer fire departments in Dale County.  Mr. Hancock was a member of the Mt. Enon Baptist Church, the Hampden Sidney Masonic Lodge No. 67 in Millbrook and was a Scottish Rite Mason.  He was also a member of the Flying Wheel Lodge No. 029, Fraternal Order of Police. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Hancock and a sister, Louise Hancock “Sissy” Hall.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Brenda Preston Hancock; a son, Horace Lee Hancock (Amber), all of Midland City; his mother, Maudie Strickland Hancock, Abbeville; two grandchildren, Preston Lee Hancock and Brently Hancock; sister, Annette Hancock (Charlene Self), Ozark; brother-in-law, Tommy Hall, Abbeville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Preston family, Doug Preston (Sheila), Reverend Kenneth Preston (Cindy), Sandra Bell (Ray), and Lisa Preston.
