EDWIN COMMUNITY...Jack A. Ryals, a resident of the Edwin Community, died early Sunday morning, July 22, 2018, at his home. He was 73.

  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in the God’s Way Baptist Church, near Eufaula, with Reverend Randy Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwin Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. A visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.

  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the God’s Way Baptist Church, 271 Pleasant Hill Road, Eufaula, AL 36027 or to the Edwin Cemetery Fund, c/o Larry Ryals, 302 Oak Drive, Abbeville, AL 36310.

  Jack Ryals was born May 4, 1945, son of the late Coleman Dock Ryals and Mary Emma Brown Ryals. He lived in and near Edwin most of his lifetime with the exception of a few years in Barbour County. Jack attended school at Baker Hill and graduated from Abbeville High School in 1963. He was employed at WestPoint Stevens for several years and in the retail grocery business for twenty-five years. In later years, Jack was self-employed as an antique furniture restorer. He retired in 2010 from the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. Jack was an avid antique collector. He was a charter member of the Henry County Historical Group and served as a committee member for the restoration of the Edwin Clubhouse. Jack wrote many historical articles for the Henry County Historical Group Newsletter, titled, “ Echoes From The Piney Woods”, which described the life and times of north Henry County. He was an active member of the God’s Way Baptist Church.

  Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Rufus Ryals and two sisters, Mary Helen Ryals Trammell and Nellie Lavonia Ryals Gordon.

  Surviving relatives include several cousins.
