James Theron Hawkins, Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at his residence, after a heroic battle with cancer. He was 48 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Westgate Church of Christ with Minister Wayne Miller and Minister Chris Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home.


James was born on February 9, 1970 in Greer, SC and spent most of his life in Dothan, AL. He was a 1988 graduate of Northview High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in history from Troy University. He was employed with Big Horse Aggregates in Tallahassee, FL. James loved spending time with his children, and was their strongest supporter in all their activities. He also enjoyed college and major league baseball, spending time in the great outdoors fishing and hunting, as well as cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a member of Honeysuckle Church of Christ.


Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Burdine Hawkins; his children, James “Theron” Hawkins, III and Elizabeth “Weber” Hawkins; mother, Rebecca Butler Hawkins of Panama City Beach, FL; brother, Shane (Liza) Hawkins of Pensacola, FL; sister, Ashley Hawkins of Los Angeles, CA; grandmother, Eleanor G. Hawkins of Greer, SC; niece and nephews, Cassady, William and James Hawkins; sister-in-law, Tracy (David) Creel of Dothan; brother-in-law, Brett (Jessica) Burdine of Dothan; mother-in-law, Lynda Burdine of Dothan; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, James Theron Hawkins, Sr.
