MIDLAND CITY…J. D. “Jeff” Givens, a resident of Midland City, died Monday morning, January 21, 2019, at his home. He was 86.


     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 25, 2019, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the Sylvan Grove Methodist Cemetery, near Midland City. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the mortuary.


     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Sylvan Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Dinah Woodham, 992 County Road 531, Midland City, AL 36350.


     Mr. Givens was born and reared in Dale County. He served his country in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Givens retired from AAA Cooper Transportation Company in Jacksonville, FL after forty-three years of employment. He lived in Jacksonville, FL from 1970 until 1998 when he returned to the Sylvan Grove Community of Dale County. Mr. Givens was preceded in death by his wife, Juliaette Lisenby Givens, his father, Dosey Givens, his mother, Annie Cook Givens Pope, and several sisters and brothers.


     Surviving relatives include his daughter, Joyia Kelley (Andy), Midland City; his son, Johnny Dennis Givens (Judy), Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Hazel and Genell, both of Eustis, FL; and several other half-sisters and half-brothers; a grandson, Andrew Grady Kelley; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
