We celebrate the life of Jean Enelle Nobles Pfluke who passed peacefully Wednesday, July 6, with her family by her side, after losing a long struggle with cancer. Mrs. Pfluke was a resident of Enterprise, AL, since 1997 when she retired there to be a full-time grandmother.

She was born Sept. 25th, 1933 in Gainesville, FL, and moved to Miami, FL, at the age of 4.  A student at Shenandoah Middle and Miami Senior High schools, she was a drum majorette and was voted “Best Dancer”. She and her younger sister also traveled and performed dance and baton routines on cruise ships to Cuba as teenagers, and later taught baton twirling professionally, competing in state and national competitions.

She attended University of Miami as a radio/television major, performed and was choreographer for the UM Hurricanettes drum majorettes as well as a member of Delta Zeta sorority and a cover girl for the campus magazine “Tempo”.  Mrs. Pfluke also danced professionally in Miami Beach jazz clubs in the ‘50s and modeled clothing for Burdines department stores as part of its Teen Board.

After college, Mrs. Pfluke worked in advertising, got married and had two children, and eventually became a special education teacher at several high schools in the Florida school system including Dixie County High School in Cross City, FL and Belle Glade High School. She was a devoted mentor to her many students with learning disabilities, several of whom credited her for getting them into college.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Polk Nobles and James Everett Nobles Sr.,  of Miami, who operated the Rockin N’ Ranch, a popular horseback riding ranch in North Miami, for 21 years; and by her brother James “Jack” Everett Nobles Jr., a longtime Miami resident who was national sales manager/general manager for WQBA radio for 35 years.

Survivors include son Paul Donald Pfluke and daughter-in-law Julie Franklin Pfluke of Enterprise; daughter, Pamela Pfluke Weiss and son-in-law Scott Weiss of Palo Alto, Ca.; Sister Mona Merle Nobles Blissett of Dothan, AL; Sister-in-law Mineva Cox Nobles of Miami, FL; Grandchildren Capt. Paul Everett “Pep” Pfluke, USMC, Camp LeJeune, NC; Amanda Nicole Pfluke Vicknair and spouse Ryan Vicknair of Louisville, KY; Zachary Scott Weiss, Zoe Skylar Weiss and Zeta Simone Weiss, all of Palo Alto, CA; Nephew Randolph Merlin Nobles of Miami; Nephews James Howard Blissett and Michael Mel Blissett both of Dothan, AL; and many loving grand nieces and grand nephews.

A visitation will be held Tuesday July 12th at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Searcy Funeral Home, 1301 Neal Metcalf Road in Enterprise, AL.  A devoted rescuer of animals, Mrs. Pfluke had asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to S.O.S. Animal Shelter, 25944 Highway 134/84, Enterprise, AL, 36330. Or donate online at http://www.sosshelter.com/#!donate/ctzx .
