ABBEVILLE. . .Jean Griffin Jones, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday night, March 19, 2017, in Flowers Hospital. She was 67.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M Wednesday, March 22, 2017, in the Union Springs Baptist Church, near Newville, with Reverend Guy Causey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M Tuesday at the mortuary in Abbeville. At other times, the family will be at the home of her son, Eric Jones, 164 Solomon Road, Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Josie Whiddon, 359 County Road 145, East, Headland, AL 36345.


            Jean Jones was born and reared in Newville, daughter of the late James Arthur Griffin, Sr. and Louette Davidson Griffin. She attended Newville High School and Headland High School. Jean was a member of the Union Springs Baptist Church. She was retired as the owner and operator of Jean Jones Group Daycare in Abbeville. Jean was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Griffin Moore.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Mike Jones; a daughter, Melanie McCoy (Ted), Newville; a son, Eric Jones (Barbara), Headland; five grandchildren, Josh McCoy (Savannah), Paxton McCoy, Matthew Jones, Madison Jones and Connor Jones; a great-grandson, Fields McCoy; a sister in law, Josie Whiddon (Gerald); a brother, James A. (Jimmy) Griffin, Jr, (Linda), Montgomery; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Paxton McCoy, Matthew Jones, Lee Watson, Josh McCoy, Keith Holmes, Wesley Whitehead, Kent Holmes and Lee Odom.


            The family would like to thank the nurses on 2 South at Flowers Hospital, especially Tonya, Jennifer, Amanda, Emily, Nicole and Kelli, for loving care shown to Jean during her stay in the hospital.
