Jean Laney

Jean Laney, age 85 of Taylor passed away Saturday morning, August 25, 2018 at Flowers Hospital following an extended illness and under the care of Kindred Hospice.

Funeral services for Ms. Laney will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday August 29, 2018 in the Chapel of Angels on Woodland at Family First Funeral Care, with Rev. Donna Cumbie officiating. Burial will follow in the Dothan City Cemetery under the direction of Family First Funeral Care. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Jean was born March 12, 1933 in Dothan daughter of the late Wylie Barnhill and Ruby Blalock Barnhill.  She was a graduate of Dothan High School and was a lifelong resident of Houston County. Jean had worked several years with AAA Cooper and later served as Office Manager with Georgia Highway Express (Transus) until her retirement. As long as her health allowed, she attended Midland City United Methodist Church.  Ms. Laney enjoyed gardening and was known as an excellent cook, especially Pound Cake and Lemon Cheese Cake. In addition, she enjoyed taking care of her dogs and watching Alabama football – Roll Tide Roll.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Cherie Laney of Tallahassee, Florida; a sister, Mynette Campbell of Birmingham; several nieces and nephews, to include two special nieces, Elizabeth Cauthorn and Debbie O’Toole, both of Dothan and her special companion, Max.

The Laney Family would like to extend and very special Thank You to the staff and management of Kindred Hospice for the wonderful care given to Ms. Laney in her final days and also to her devoted friends and neighbors the Gills and Smiths families.
