Jerry Franklin Godwin, 81, a resident of Dothan died on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at his home after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Goldsmith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-2:30 pm.

Mr. Godwin was born in Dale County, the son of the late Huey and Clara Mae Godwin. He was raised in the Midland City area and lived his adult life in Dothan. Mr. Godwin worked as a TV and appliance technician some 30 plus years at Sears.

Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his two sisters, Annete Godwin and Irma (Lloyd) Willis; and by his grandson, Kevin Dwayne Godwin.

Survivors include his wife, of 62 years, Virginia Sue Godwin; his daughter, Tammi (Phillip) Smith; his son, Terry (Jill) Godwin; his 5 granddaughters, Carla Smith, Natalie Joiner, Hannah Graves, Ranah McSween, and Rhonda McSween; his 3 grandsons, Jonathon Blake Joiner, Kyle Logan Godwin, and David McSween; his 4 great-granddaughters, Lindsey Godwin, Summer Smith, Addison Joiner, and Sophie Wilcox; his 3 great grandsons, Brandon Smith, Levi Smith, and Landon Scannell; his sister, Shirlene (Dalton) Creel; his brother, Jerome (Gloria) Godwin; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Blake Joiner, Kyle Godwin, Jerry Parmer, Charles Klein, James Faulk, and Cary Godwin.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the kindness shown to them by Kindred Hospice and their personal care givers.
