Jerry L. Gilbert, Sr. of New Brockton and formerly of Shreveport, LA passed away Friday evening, August 18, 2017 at his residence. He was 75.

 

Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday August 22, 2017 at the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise with Rev. Nate Sims and Rev. Mack King officiating. Burial will follow in the New Brockton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at  1:00pm and continuing until service time.

 

Flowers will be accepted or donations could be made to a Veterans Support Organization of your choice.

 

He was born March 29, 1942 in Shreveport, LA to the late Charles R. Gilbert  Sr. and Edith Post Gilbert.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John R. Gilbert, sister and brother in law, Alice Jo and Don Parker.

 

Jerry retired as Flight Operations NCO from the U.S. Army in 1980 after serving 2 tours in Vietnam. He and wife Linda returned to New Brockton in 1986 where he worked with the New Brockton Police Dept until 2003.

 

Survivors include his wife, Linda Farris Gilbert, New Brockton, son, Jerry L. Gilbert Jr. (June) of Kemp, TX , daughter, Barbara Peters (Glenn) of Bossier City, LA,  five grandchildren, one great grandson, his sister, Jannie McCallman (R.D.) of Moorningsport, LA, his brother, Charles R. Gilbert (Holly )  of Smyrna, TN, mother-in-law. Laddie Farris McGlothren, Enterprise, brothers-in-law, Ralph L. Farris, Level Plains, AL, Ken L Farris (Cathy ), Enterprise, AL, numerous nieces and nephews.
