Jerry Lamar “Skeet” McAlister, 78, of Dothan, AL., passed away on October 17, 2018 surrounded by his family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on November 4, 1939 to William McAlister and Sara McAlister (Williams) in Houston County before residing in Slocomb for 44 years.


Funeral Service: 11 AM, Friday, October 19, 2018 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with visitation one hour before service, burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Rev. Jim Legg and Rev. Dicky McAllister. Pallbearer’s who will be serving : David McAlister, Ernie McAlister, Royce Dawsey, Rodney Dawsey, Robin Dawsey, Bobby Price, Michael Durden, David Durden, Derrick Duell, Troy Duell and RC Caicoya. Honorary Pallbearer’s: Ronald Sawyers, Ron Sawyers, and James Bedsole.


Special thanks to Bridgette Johnson, Cagney Reeves, Jay Thoma and all of Covenant Hospice Staff.


For 30 years, Mr. McAlister was a distributer of Tom’s Houston Peanut Company. He also raised cattle and grew produce. He served on the Slocomb School Board. He was an active supporter of Slocomb School’s and Athletics. He was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church and was an Adult Sunday School teacher for many years.


Preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Jerri Lynn McAlister Hovey, brother: Billy McAlister, two infant brothers; Mother and Father -in -laws: Kedrick and Martha Durden, two brothers-in-law: K. Earl Durden, and Bob Price.


Survivors: Loving wife of 59 years: Sandra Durden McAlister, daughter: Paige McAlister Evans, grandchildren: Cade and Cassie Hovey, Garon Hovey, Durden Smith, Madi Thompson, two great-grandchildren: Avery and Mac Hovey, brother and sister-in-laws: Quinn  McAlister, Karen Durden, Charlotte Price, Judy Duell (Ron), Roger Durden (Barbara), Wynell Dawsey (Walter “Chunky”), Lawrence Durden (Patsy).
