HEADLAND. . .Joel Rubin Cordell, a resident of the Tumbleton Community, near Headland, died early Tuesday night, June 28, 2016, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident which occurred on County Road 130, between Clopton and Edwin. He was 40.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 1, 2016, in the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Pettis and Reverend Danny Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, P.O. Box 96864, Washington, D.C. 20090.


            Joel Rubin Cordell was born and reared in the Texasville Community of Barbour County and attended Louisville High School and Wallace Community College, Dothan. He was a member of the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church and attended the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He had been self-employed as a carpenter in residential construction. Joel was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Barron.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Kristee Armstrong Cordell, two daughters, Kayleigh Cordell, and Sage Cordell, all of the Tumbleton Community; his mother, Linda Cordell, Edwin Community; his father and step-mother, Johnny and Susan Cordell, Abbeville; four sisters, Lisa Cordell, Edwin Community; Laura Tew (Micah), Midland City; Lanae Allen (Mike), Dothan; and Brandi Cordell, Abbeville; four brothers, Reverend Jonathan Cordell (Jerri), Ozark; Keith Jones, Dothan; Reverend Brandon Turner (Nicci), and Jason Turner (Dawn), all of Abbeville; father-in-law, John William Armstrong, mother-in-law, Regina Singleton Armstrong, sisters-in-law, Karen Correa, Michelle Tew (Jerome), and a brother-in-law, Scott Barron; numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Davis, Ray Stinson, Sam Stinson, J. C. Cordell, Jr., Andy Cordell and Andrew Barron.
