Mr. John Allen Ammons, of Montgomery, formerly of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018. He was 70.


Born August 2, 1947 in Dothan to the late John Samuel and Vermel Markham Ammons, Mr. Ammons was a member of University Church of Christ. A 1965 graduate of Ashford High School, a 1967 graduate of Alabama Christian College, a 1971 graduate of Alabama Christian School of Religion, and a 1978 graduate of Auburn University. Mr. Ammons retired from teaching social sciences for 7th to 12th graders having received his teacher’s certificate in 1979. He taught at Alabama Christian Academy for 41 years before retiring. Mr. Ammons joined Panama Street Church of Christ in 1980 and began preaching the early service in 1981 and continued until 2010. He began preaching at Tallassee Church of Christ in 2011 and continued until 2016. He was loved by many friends and a great influence on all his former students.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncles and aunts, Leanord and Elvie Ammons, Avadelle North and James and Katie Towns; his uncle, Ernest H Brackin and AJ Kriley; his cousin, Cindajo Towns;


He is survived by his aunts, Georgie Brackin, Pensacola, Florida and Patricia W Kriley, Butler, Pennsylvania; his cousins, Philip A and Robin Kriley, Renfrew, Pennsylvania, Darla and Don Helms, Columbia, South Carolina, Mark A Kriley, Butler, Pennsylvania, Ernest and Lillian Brackin, Pensacola, Florida; Ival and Denese Meyer, Pensacola, Florida, and Matthew and Amy Hutchinson, Apopka, Florida; Charles and Bobby North, Ashford, Alabama, his caregiver, LeAnn Farmer, Montgomery, Alabama; and a host of great-cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles and friends.


Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, June 15, 2018 at Enon Church of Christ in Webb, Alabama. Alabama Christian Academy will hold a Celebration of Life at 2 PM, June 24, 2018 at University Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alabama Christian Academy or University Church of Christ Benevolent Fund.
