NEWVILLE. . .John Michael “Mike” Taylor, a resident of Newville, died late Monday night, November 28, 2016, at his home. He was 65.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Missions Fund” of the First Baptist Church of Dothan, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mike Taylor was born and raised in Dothan, son of the late John Thomas Taylor, Jr. and Syble Lucille Hudson Taylor. He was a 1969 graduate of Dothan High School and graduated from Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1972. Mike retired from Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville as a licensed funeral director and Operations Manager. In earlier years, he was employed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science as a Death Investigator and Crime Scene Investigator. While a resident of Jacksonville, Mike was involved in the Prison Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. He earned a diploma in Biblical Studies from Liberty University in 2004. Mike was privileged to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan and a former member of the Concord Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mike was a former member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge in Dothan and was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a Scottish Rite Mason. He was a licensed private pilot and a former member of the Alabama State Police Officers Association. He lived in Mobile, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida before moving to the Concord community of Henry County in 2007. Mike was preceded in death by a son, Brandon David Taylor.


            Surviving relatives include the love of his life for forty-three years, Glenda Palmer Taylor; a daughter, Melanie S. Taylor, Daphne, AL; a son, Adam M. Taylor, Mobile, AL; a sister, Amy Taylor Dempsey (Wiley), Montgomery; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Hicks, and Lillian Mulkey (James);  several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
