Joyce Franklin, age 83, of Enterprise, AL, passed away from a chronic lung disease, even though she had survived lung cancer, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, May 4, 2018 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with her son, LTC (Ret.) Tony R. Franklin and son-in-law, Doug Echols officiating.   Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 12:00 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to S.O.S. Animal Shelter, 25944 AL 134, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Mrs. Franklin was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She faithfully supported her husband during his 43 years of military service, to include two tours during the Vietnam War as an Army Aviator.  Her love of music was an influence to her family and was passed on to her children and grandchildren.  She was an avid golfer, winning Enterprise Country Club Championships and she has six holes-in-one.  She had a love for cooking and enjoyed serving her family through their taste buds.  Many recipes existing only in her memory will be forever gone.  She supported her family through each of their activities and supported each one with her presence.  She was the greatest story teller and always the life of the party.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, CW4 (Ret.) Jim Franklin, Enterprise, AL; two daughters, Shelia Hurley (Ray) Grantville, GA; Celia Echols (Doug) Enterprise, AL; two sons, LTC (Ret.) Tony R. Franklin (Susan R.) Enterprise, AL; Stuart H. Franklin, Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law, Jannie Franklin, Dothan, AL; one brother, B. R. Hall, Wrightsville, GA; eleven grandchildren, Tiffany Swaney; Jessica Hurley; Hannah Echols; Faith Echols; Natalie Echols; James Douglas Echols; Brian Franklin;  Rick Franklin; Kevin Franklin; James Franklin; Kate Franklin; five great-grandchildren, Kevin, Ray, Bella, Kaylee and Kendall.
