JOYCE  HEMBREE  BURKETT

EDWIN COMMUNITY. . .Joyce Hembree Burkett, a resident of the Edwin Community in Henry County, died Friday morning, May 20, 2016, in the Noland Hospital in Dothan. She was 69.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Monday, May 23, 2016, in the Lakeside Christian Fellowship with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Abbeville.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to the Lakeside Christian Fellowship “Benevolence Fund”, P.O. Box 218, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mrs. Burkett was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and was reared in Lucedale, Mississippi, daughter of the late James Ervin Hembree, Sr. and Juanita Louise Lucas Hembree. She moved to the Edwin Community in 1991. Mrs. Burkett was retired from the Abbeville Elementary School in the lunch room. In earlier years, she was employed by WestPoint Stevens. Mrs. Burkett was a member of the Lakeside Christian Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Darrell Burkett, a daughter, Amy Burkett, a son-in-law, Orville Harrison, and a brother, Jimbo Hembree.

            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Lisa Harrison, Abbeville; three sons, Mike McLeod (Cathy), Headland; Andy McLeod (Terressa), Newton; and Phillip Burkett (Brandy), Skipperville; eleven grandchildren, Grayson, Anthony, Jeremy, J. J., Mason, Jacob, Jarrett, Travis, Macey, Brianna and Dalton; one great-grandson, Brayden; five sisters, Janice Brooks (Carl), Columbia; Joan Kyle (Ronnie), Axis, AL; JoAnn Dobson, Agricola, MS; Judy Entrekin, Ocala, FL; and Janie Smith, Sneads, FL; three brothers, Wayne Hembree (Lois), Lucedale, MS;  Jerry Hembree (Gloria), Citronelle, AL; and Jeff Hembree (Sandra), Edwin Community.
