TUMBLETON COMMUNITY…Mrs. Justine Shelley Whiddon, 91, of the Tumbleton community died Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 18, at Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 19, at New Zion Freewill Baptist Church, Tumbleton, with the Rev. Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the Newville Baptist Church Cemetery, Newville.

The daughter of Mr. Jesse Shelley and Mrs. Susie B. (Hodges) Shelley, Mrs. Whiddon was born and raised in the Tumbleton community. She was the widow of Wade Whiddon to whom she was married 54 years.   She lived most of her life in Henry County including many years in Abbeville. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Mrs. Whiddon was a member of the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing flowers and family gatherings.

Survivors include four children and spouses: Charlotte Whiddon, Tumbleton; Jimmy Whiddon (Celia), Abbeville; Kent Whiddon (Judy), Newville; Susan Walworth (Arnold), Peachtree City, GA.; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Mary Shelley, Tumbleton; two sisters-in-law, June Whiddon, Abbeville; Evelyn Wilkerson, Newville; 10 grandchildren, Amy Fritz, Jeremy Whiddon (Shannah), Stacie Whiddon, Joe Whiddon (Stacey),  Jennifer Wright (Jared), Timothy Baxley (Brittany), Dana Money (Joel),  Mary Beth Joseph (Josh), Melanie Sanders (Chris), Sam Walworth; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o David Teat, 10033 County Road 47, Shorterville, AL 36373 or to the Newville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 45, Newville, AL 36353.
