Kenneth Fondren, Sr. 76, a resident of Hartford, passed away on April 27, 2017 at his home.


Funeral services will be held 3 pm Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James H. Peters. Graveside service with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends 2-3 pm prior to the service.


Mr. Fondren was born in Bonifay, Florida on July 19, 1940 and resided the early years of his life in the Hartford area. He was a 1959 graduate of Geneva County High School. Mr. Fondren joined the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War and had twelve years active duty service and two years in the Navy Reserve until his medical retirement in 1974. He learned about friendship and true brotherhood while serving his country in the Navy. Mr. Fondren was a strong man and loved his family. Mr. Fondren enjoyed his grandchildren and seeing them grow up to become beautiful young people. Kenneth's heart was filled with joy with the birth of his great-grandson, Jefferson Williams. He loved his pets especially his dog Booder and his cat Callie. Mr. Fondren was a lifetime member of DAV Chapter 87.


Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice Hall Fondren; his daughters, Lisa Carol Williams and her husband, Rodney Warren Williams, Lori Lynn Bridge and her husband, James Martin Bridge; his sons, Kenneth Lamar Fondren, Jr., and his wife, Anita Fondren, David Eric Fondren; his grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Williams Rzadkowolski and her husband Charles Rzadkowolski, 1st Lt. Zachary Williams, USMC and his wife, Sarah Williams, Kendall Fondren, Morgan Fondren and Seth Fondren; his great-grandson, Jefferson Davis Williams; his mother, Mary Inez Fondren; his brother, Max Fondren and his wife, Janice Fondren; his sisters, Mary Jackson and her husband, Cecil Jackson, Jane Smith and her husband, Don Smith; several nieces and nephews.
