OPELIKA, ALABAMA. . .Kenneth Lane Smith, a resident of Opelika, Alabama, formerly of Abbeville, died Wednesday morning, December 26, 2018, in the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. He was 49.

     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 28, 2018, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrim Rest Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.

     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Children’s Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.

     Kenneth Lane Smith was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina and moved to Abbeville as a teenager. He graduated from Abbeville High School in the Special Education program. Kenneth was of the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Turner Smith.

     Surviving relatives include his father and step-mother, Richard and Patsy Smith, Abbeville; four sisters, Sheila Jeffords (Mark), Hartsville, SC; Tina Weber (Denny), Amy Walker (Mark), and Joni Smith, all of Abbeville; two brothers, Allen Tillis (Sue), Shorterville; and Jason Smith (Tara), Abbeville; aunts, Elma Ruth Mizell (Dan), Natalie Money (Marty), Marsha Murphy (Brent), and Linda Sessoms; uncles, Short Smith (Debbie) and Harold Turner (Jean); several nieces and nephews.

     Serving as active pallbearers will be Ricky Hayes, Joe Cutchen, Huey Jones, Jim Griggs, Keith Barnes and Mark Walker.
