Kurtis Joe Slater, age 37 of Enterprise died late Monday evening, August 6, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.


A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM Thursday, August 9, 2018 in the Chapel of the Angels at Woodland at Family First Funeral Care with full military honors being presented and the family receiving friends immediately following the service with Ronnie Posey officiating and Family First Funeral Care directing.  For those wishing to contribute food or drink for the family gathering, Restoration Pentecostal Ministries Church will be receiving items from 3PM until 6PM on Thursday and the family meal will begin at 6PM in the church.


Kurtis was born October 10, 1980 in Stuart, Florida and spent most of his life in Okeechobee, FL, where he graduated from Okeechobee High School. After high school, Kurtis joined the United States Army in 2000 and faithfully served our great nation during two overseas tours, once for Operation Enduring Freedom and again for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged in 2004. Upon his discharge from the Army, he received his Associated Degree from Enterprise State Community College. Kurtis loved the great outdoors and theme parks, especially with roller coasters. The bigger the better was his attitude and played well with his adrenaline junkie attitude. Kurtis loved kids, none better than his own three, which were the center of his world and the thing he adored most in life. Kurtis will be greatly missed by his family, his military family and great friends he cherished.


Kurtis is survived by his three children, two daughters, Katie Jo Slater and Karrie Jade Slater and his son, Nathanael Kurtis Slater, all of Greenwood, FL; his father, Herbert Earcell Slater (Joy) of Okeechobee, FL; his mother, Karrie Jo Selner (Dave) of Edmonton, KY; a brother, Herbert Earcell Slater, II of GA and three sisters, Heather Slater of Edmonton, KY, Samantha Comfort and Savannah Callaway, both of Okeechobee, FL and the mother of his three children, Amy Slater of Greenwood, FL.
