ABBEVILLE. . .Leon Clyde Smith, a resident of Abbeville, died early Thursday morning, January 25, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 90.

            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 27, 2018, in the Hutto Cemetery, near Abbeville, with Minister Bob Blalock and Carrol Grimes officiating. Holman Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary. At other times the family will be at the home of Melinda Gay Peterson, County Road 84, Abbeville.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hutto Cemetery Fund, c/o Vivian Jones, 1581 County Road 81, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of the Thrasher Bottom Community of Henry County, son of the late William Zion Smith and Annie Roberson Smith. He served his country in the U.S. Army in 1945. Mr. Smith was a member of Abbeville Church of Christ. He was retired as a security guard from WestPoint Stevens. In earlier years, he was employed by Couch, Inc. and Hewitt Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Price Smith; four sisters, Annie Mae Smith, Gracie Smith Clenney, Lillie Z. Smith Turner and Frances Barnes; a brother, Johnnie G. Smith and a son-in-law, Joey Jones.

            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Bonnie J. Smith Price (Terry), Vivian Smith Jones, and Melinda Gay Peterson (Pete), all of Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Vallie Skelton (Todd), Dawn Turner (Jason), Nicholas Jones (Regina), Anneliese Wood (Joey), Candice Price, Evan Smith, Marie Kellum (Jeff) and Robert Peterson (Meghan); and seven great-grandchildren.
