Lewie C. “Phil” Phillips of Enterprise passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 78.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Reverend Bruce Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 87, with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.


Phil was born April 20, 1940, in Dale County, AL.  He was a member of Goodman Baptist Church.  He attended Ariton High School and George C. Wallace College.  He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve in Troy, AL, the US Navy Sixth Fleet in Norfork, VA and the Alabama National Guard, Howser Units of Elba and Daleville, AL.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 678 of Leverett, AL and the National Camping Travelers Club, No. 148 of Alabama.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elaine Phillips and one brother, Joseph Phillips of Ariton.


Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Barbara Joyce Phillips of Enterprise; one son, Eric Massey (Dawn), of Enterprise; brother and sister in law Wyman Whatley (Joan) of Coffee Springs; nephew, Whitney Whatley (Jennifer) of Coffee Springs and niece, Brandy Jones (Jeff) of Geneva and three grandchildren:  Kaleigh, Dalton and Cooper Massey.
