DOTHAN. . .Loretta Redden Russell, a resident of Dothan, died early Friday afternoon, April 20, 2018, at her home. She was 85.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 22, 2018, in the Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend David Flatt and Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Private family graveside services will follow in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church “Mission Fund”, 3257 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mrs. Russell was born in Steele, Alabama and was reared on Chandler Mountain, in St Clair County. She was the daughter of the late Noley Franklin Redden, Sr. and Pauline Fore Redden.  Mrs. Russell was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. A beloved pastor’s wife, she taught Sunday School and often served as W.M.U. director in churches her husband pastored in Clayton, Ozark, Carrollton, and Dothan, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Wallace “Buddy” Russell, Jr., a son, Edward Russell, a sister and two brothers.


            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Judy Joiner (Willie), Sylacauga, AL; Sally Latham (Gene), Northport, AL; and Barbie Flatt (David), Panama City, FL; a daughter-in-law, Judie Russell, Temple, GA;  four grandchildren, Scott Knight, (Sabrina), Nicole Sheehan (William), Matt Latham (Brooke), and Brookelyn Flatt; five great-grandchildren, Addison Knight, Justice Knight, Hannah Hassebrock, Caleb Hassebrock, and Ashleigh Latham; two brothers, six sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to primary caregiver Michelle Lyles-Brooks, and assistants Susan Corbitt and Mary Washington for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Russell during her illness.
