Mrs. Lula Mae Larry McGriff departed this life Saturday, July 23, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. She was 96.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Gordon with Rev. Eddie B. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Byrd Funeral Home.


Mrs. McGriff was born December 24, 1919 in Jackson County, Florida to the late Willie and Will Garrett Larry. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Gordon, Alabama. She was the mother of 11 children, 46 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


Mrs. McGriff was preceded in death by her parents; eight siblings; her husband, Sam McGriff; a son, Johnnie Robert McGriff; and a daughter, Jessie Mae McClyde.


She leaves to cherish her many precious memories nine living children, Fannie Mae Bennett (L.C.), Ike McGriff (Pat), Martha Francis (James), Eddie McGriff (Pearline), Mose McGriff (Betty), Nellie Sanders (Tony), Joe McGriff (Corine), Willie McGriff (Irene), and Barbara Newton (Vernon), Deloris McGriff; two half-sisters and a half-brother; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
