Mrs. Mabel Brown Baker of Geneva, Alabama, passed away Monday, May 09, 2016, at Wiregrass Nursing Home. She was 93.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 2:00pm at Westside United Methodist Church in Geneva, with the pastors Brooks Braswell and Bradley Chamblee officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday at 1:00pm and continue until service time.  A private burial service directed by Pittman Funeral Home will be held immediately following the church service at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren attending.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Westside United Methodist Church, 1010 W. Maple Ave., Geneva, AL 36340 or to a charity of your choice.

Mabel was one of nine children born to the late John D. and Leila Hurston Brown on May 15, 1922, in Geneva County, Alabama.  She lived her whole life in Geneva and was a long-time member of Westside United Methodist Church. She worked for many years for Family Apparel, Ethel’s Dress Shop, and finally Baker Farm Supply, Inc. in downtown Geneva.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gus Baker; a daughter, Judith Marilyn; an infant son; a granddaughter, Beverly Helms; five brothers, Henry, Gus, Roy, Bob,  and Jack; and three sisters, Lula McIntosh, Myrtle Aycock,  and Jewel Harrison.

She is survived by a son, Terry (Jane) Baker; a daughter, Martha Helms; a granddaughter, Elizabeth (Donald Jay) Helms Fain all of Geneva; two grandsons, Nolan (Michelle) Baker of Ponce de Leon, FL and Ryan Baker of Northport, AL; and six great- grandchildren, Garret and Morgan Creech of Geneva, AL, Bella, Aubree, and Emma Baker of Ponce de Leon, FL, and Dylan Baker of Northport, AL.
