TEXASVILLE. .  .Mavis Walker Carroll, a resident of Texasville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday morning, October 18, 2017, in the UAB Hospital in Birmingham. She was 81.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 22, 2017, in the Spring Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Cox and Reverend Bill Hassell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lela Bell, 230 Mavis Carroll Road, Clopton, AL 36317.


            Mrs. Carroll was born and reared in the Wills Crossroads Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Vernie Lee Walker and Vera Justice Walker. She lived in Barbour County, between Blue Springs and Texasville, all her adult lifetime. Mrs. Carroll was an active member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church and the Texasville Homemakers Club. In earlier years, she served as a Barbour County Commissioner. Mrs. Carroll retired from WestPoint Stevens as Purchasing Manager.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis M. Carroll, a granddaughter, Keisha Nicole Carroll and a sister-in-law, Peggy Walker.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lesa Smith (Henry Dale), Clayton; and Lela Bell (Terry), Texasville; a son, Gil Carroll (Judy), Texasville; a sister, Debbie Volf (Jerry), Abbeville; a brother, John Lynn Walker, Texasville; five grandchildren, Heather Smith Fox (Peter), Holly Smith Rollins (Ray), Rachel Bell Haynes (Chad), Clifford Willis Hamilton Bell (Ashley), Michelle Smith Jennings (Terry); ten great-grandchildren, Grace Rollins, Amelia Rollins, Hunter Dale Smith, Miley Carroll, River Haynes, Reed Haynes, Jacob Bell, Addison Bell, Brantlee Jennings and Tripp Fox; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Cliff Bell, Michael Walker, Stormy Walker, Greg Walker, Shane Volf and Blake Volf. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chad Haynes, Pete Fox, Ray Rollins, T.J. Jennings, Chris Baker and Bobby Baker.
