Max Nomberg was born February 26, 1917 in New York City, New York.  Max passed away peacefully in his sleep, in his home early August 1, 2017.  Mr. Nomberg will be laid to rest on Sunday, August 6, 2017.  Visitation/Celebration of Life will be held at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Hartford Highway, Dothan, Alabama from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Graveside services will be conducted by Rabbi Lynne Goldsmith of Dothan’s Temple Emanu-el and will immediately follow at the adjacent Memory Hill Cemetery at 2:30 pm.

For the past number of years, Mr. Nomberg resided in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  Mr. Nomberg’s wife, Dorothy Bieber, preceded him in death on June 4, 2011, after being married 71 years.  He (they) were members of Temple Emanu-El in Dothan, Alabama since 1948.  Max is survived by his two loving and caring children, Joel M. Nomberg and Susan N. McCollough and Susan’s husband, Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough of Gulf Shores, AL; his grandchildren: Stedman McCollough and his wife, Rebecca; Bernard D. Nomberg; Robert I. Nomberg and his wife, Jennifer; Chanee M. Powell and her husband, Riley; David P. Nomberg and his wife, Leigh Anne; as well as his great grandchildren: Brent and Shelton McCollough; Sidney and Emily Nomberg; Isabelle Susan and Mary McCollough Powell; Gavin and Zoe Nomberg; and Lilly and Ellis Nomberg.

Known as “Papa Max” to his family and friends, he was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend to all that met and knew him.  He was a member of the Temple Emanu-El Board having served as a president, member of the Temple Men’s Club, life member of Hadassah, World War II Veteran, Dothan Country Club, and Hackers Golf Group.

Mr. Nomberg’s long life was an amazing voyage and this was filled by his love and caring wife, family, and friends from all walks of life.  He loved his Temple, his religion, especially the Jewish holidays and all other family holidays.  He was always involved in sports and was a super athlete.  He enjoyed baseball, football, and boxing; played golf into his late 80’s. Watching Alabama football with family members was always a highlight.  The word “no” was never in his vocabulary.  Up until his passing, a cup of coffee and cigar every morning is what he told all was the key to his longevity.

The family requests no flowers be sent.  Donations are requested and made out to the Temple Emanu-el Cemetery Committee for the perpetual care at Memory Hill Cemetery.
