MIDLAND CITY. . .Mildred Woodham Dease, a resident of Midland City, died early Wednesday night, August 17, 2016, at her home. She was 93.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 20, 2016, in the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Jerry M. Dooling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Sylvan Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Dinah Woodham, 992 County Road 531, Midland City, Alabama 36350.


            Mrs. Dease was born and reared in Sylvan Grove Community of Dale County, daughter of the late Pilly O. Woodham, Sr. and Mattie Woodham. She lived in Dothan before returning to Dale County in 1978. Mrs. Dease was a graduate of Midland City High School and received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and Master’s Degree in Reading both from Troy University.  She was retired from the Dothan City School System as an elementary school teacher at the Southside Elementary School. Mrs. Dease was a member of the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church and the Cactus Club. She was also a member of the Dothan-Houston County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Dease was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Hilton Dease, a son, Philip Dease, four sisters, Canora Brophy, Jacqueline Bennett, Pauline Marshall and Ruth Mears-Pike, two brothers, Pilly Oakland Woodham, Jr. and Kenneth Michael “Mikey” Woodham, and a son-in-law, Euyl Bush.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Barbara Hudson (Charles), Dothan; and Cecelia Bush, Midland City; two sons, Joe Dease (Gloria), Dothan; and Doug Dease (Carol), Columbia; a daughter-in-law, Jean Dease, Dothan; three sisters, Runell Clark, Dothan; Corrie Paramore (Earl), Marianna; and Sharon Snowden, Midland City; a sister-in-law, Martha Woodham, Midland City; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Blake Hudson, Paul Dease, Mike Dease, Clay Dell, Reid Dell, Drew Dease and Michael White.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to caregiver, Jean Berry, as well as AlaCare Hospice, Dr. James A. Robeson, Jr. and Carmen Matthews for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Dease during her illness.
