Mr. Charles F. Griffith, 82, of Dothan, struggled with health issues the last several years and the Lord took him home Saturday, June 17, 2017. He will be sorely missed.


Mr. Griffith was born in Beverly, West Virginia on January 3, 1935 to Lester and Ora Griffith. He was the oldest of eight siblings, he lived in West Virginia until he was 17. Charles worked in Ohio for two years before joining the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Vietnam War and retired in 1975. Mr. Griffith then moved to Dothan and worked for the Post Office until he retired in 1997. He was an avid sports fanatic, enjoyed gardening, and being with his family. He was also a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.


He is preceded in death by his father, Lester Griffith; mother, Ora Griffith; brothers, Roger Dale Griffith, Lester “Shorty” Griffith, and Paul “Romie” Griffith;  sisters, Geneva Hines and Maxine Miller.


Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ellen Griffith, of Dothan; sons, Charles Richard Griffith (Melinda Louise) of Headland, Franklin Duane Griffith (Pamela Denise) of Birmingham, Jesse Lynn Burgess (Betty Jean) of Dothan, Tony Wayne Burgess ( Jeri) of Dothan, Joe Allen Burgess (Gail) of Dothan; sister, Evelyn “Sissy” Nelson (Mark) of Efland, NC; brother, Gary Lee Griffith (Jean Belan) of Ripley, WV; grandchildren, Felicia Louise King, Brittney Melinda Filion, Zachary Tyler Griffith, Garrett Benjamin Griffith, James Allen Burgess, Randall Lee Burgess, and Christina Rene Burgess; great grandchildren, Tristan King, Charlie Filion, Allen Burgess, Brandon Burgess, Charlton Burgess, Dillion Burgess, Destiny Burgess, Colby Burgess, and Lilly Ann Burgess, Sean Hopkins, David Hopkins, and Jessica White.


Funeral services will be at 1 P.M. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.


The family will receive friends at 11:30 A.M. till 1.P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will be accepting flowers.
