Mr. Charles H. (Sonny) Smith, 79, of Enterprise, AL, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Friday, April 13, 2018 at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Butler officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made St. Luke Methodist Church, 201 Heath Street, Enterprise, AL 36330 or to the Wiregrass Wounded Vets Committee (WWVC), P.O. Box 0598, Enterprise, AL 36331.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Suzanne Smith Pendarvis

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  He served 3 tours in Vietnam and was a retired CW-4.  He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (17 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2), Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (2), Vietnam Civil Actions Medal and the Meritorious Unit Medal. Mr. Smith was also recognized as the 2008 Man of the Year.  He was a member of the Enterprise Lions Club and was awarded the 2008 Lion of the Year and the recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones award.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sally Smith, Enterprise, AL; 2 daughters, Stephanie Bowden (Don), Hoover, AL, Terri Williford (Tim), Vidalia, GA; 2 sons, Chuck Smith (Paula), Auburn, AL, Tracy Smith (Lesley), Louisville, KY; 2 sisters, Kaye Baker and Jackie Taylor; 9 grandchildren, Melissa Morris, Aaron Bowden, Will Smith, Brett Bowden, Taylor Boyd, Zachary Williford, Savannah Smith, Sadie Claire Smith and Rachel Smith; 3 great grandchildren.
