Mr. Charles Joseph McCord, of Dothan, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 86.


 


Born August 31, 1931 in Elba, Alabama to the late Henry and Nonnie Faye Warren Bascom, Mr. McCord was a member of Mount Enon Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired from GTE after 32 years and also worked at Ft. Rucker for over 9 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He enjoyed cruising, having taken 8 cruises with his wife Mary and he also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.


 


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James McCord, a brother and sister-in-law, Terrell McCord and Chastine McCord, an infant sister, and a great-granddaughter, Madison Simerly.


 


He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Weeks McCord; his sons, Steve (Sandy) McCord and Greg (Vicky) McCord; his sisters, Peggy Tony, Patsy (Foster) Bane, Pansy (Ronald) Andrews; his sister-in-law, Eula McCord; his brother Ira “Buddy” (Sybil) McCord; his grandchildren, Mandy (Brent) Simerly, Tracey (Kim) McCord, Jessica (Tim) Payne, Megan (Bobby) Key, Jennifer (Morgan) Burke, and Joey McCord; his great-grandchildren, Kelsey McCord, Casey McCord, Kinley McCord, Ava Simerly, Braiden Burke, Roxette Payne, Charlie Payne, Bryson Burke, Mikey Payne, and Declyn Burke; numerous other relatives and friends.


 


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 1, 2017 from the Mount Enon Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Hood and Reverend Coley Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM one hour prior to the service.


 


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Mount Enon Baptist Church Building Fund.
