Charles (R.V.) Johnson passed away peacefully on Aug 10, 2017 in Simpsonville, SC with family by his side.  He was 92. 



Mr. Johnson was born Oct 15, 1924 to parents Charlie Euell and Lorena Givens Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Westgate Church of Christ in Dothan and an associate member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mauldin, SC.  He resided in Dothan, AL most of his life, but due to declining health had moved to Simpsonville, SC to live with his daughter.    Mr. Johnson was a WWII veteran, where he earned a Distinguished Service Cross and Bronze Star medal for his actions while stationed in Europe.  He was assigned to Sasebo, Japan to help with the rehabilitation efforts after the end of WWII.


 


Mr. Johnson is survived by daughter Gail Broyles and her husband, Mike of Simpsonville, SC, son Charles Randall Johnson (Cottonwood, AL), grandsons Cody Johnson (Tuscaloosa, AL), Christopher Johnson and wife, Carla, and great-grandson, Shawn (Huntsville, AL)., brother Raymond Edward Johnson (Lakeland, FL), sisters Willene Givens (Orlando, FL), and Betty Jean Helms (Graceville, FL), cousins, nieces, and nephews too numerous to list, but know that he loved each of you.  He was pre-deceased by brothers Grady Lamar, William Earl, Eirfie C and by sisters Merlene Tew, Bessie Mae Morris, Emmer Lue Johnson and Shelly Rean Johnson


 


Visitation will be held 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug 17 at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan, AL with a graveside service 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug 18 at Garden of Memory in Kinsey, AL.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mauldin, SC on Wednesday, Aug 23 at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the non-profit Quilts of Valor Foundation (www.qovf.org)


 


The family would like to thank The Springs of Simpsonville Assisted Living and Pathway Hospice for the love and care shown during the past few months.
