Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

Mr. Daniel Alex “Dan” Shirah, 82, of Ozark, died Friday, May 11, 2018, in Noland Hospital.


Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Eric Fuller officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday in the church from 9:30 A.M. until service time.


Mr. Shirah was born June 16, 1935 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Frank Leon Shirah and Lela Mae Herring Shirah.  Mr. Shirah served in the Alabama Army National Guard and worked at Fort Rucker for 44 years in Quality Control.  He was a prior member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Ozark where he was ordained as a Deacon.  Mr. Shirah was a current member of Ozark Baptist Church, Deacon Emeritus, and Sunday School teacher.  He was a good cook and enjoyed having fish-fries, going fishing, working in his yard, and horticulture.  He was an avid Alabama fan who loved his family dearly.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Reeves Shirah.


Survivors include two daughters, Revonda Shirah of Dothan, Alabama, Dannah Lilley of Richmond Hill, Georgia; three grandchildren, Tiffany Gibson of Pikeville, North Carolina, Joshua Lilley of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Samuel Lilley of Richmond Hill, Georgia; three great grandchildren, Jonathan Gibson, Ryan Gibson, and Kaitlyn Gibson all of Pikeville, North Carolina; one sister, Eloise Paramore of Fort Rucker, Alabama; one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Shirley Shirah of Dothan; his special friend, Bob Eliah of Ozark.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Ozark Baptist Church, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or to the Disabled American Veterans, 221 Williams Drive, Ozark, Alabama  36360.
