Mr. Daniel Leonard McGowan, Sr. of Geneva passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. He was 92. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Edwin Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Eunola Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 579, Geneva, AL 36340, or to the Eunola Cemetery Fund, c/o Mary Ann Hatcher, 338 Shawnee Dr., Wetumpka, AL 36092. 

Mr. McGowan was born in Geneva on July 2, 1924, to the late James W. and Jennie Johnson McGowan. He was a longtime member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Geneva, where he served in numerous capacities including Sunday School Teacher and Royal Ambassadors Teacher. In the early 1970’s Mr. McGowan served on the building committee responsible for building the current sanctuary. 

Prior to his retirement he and his brother, Earl, owned and operated a successful TV and radio repair business in Geneva for more than fifty years. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Bernice McGowan, Ted McGowan, Earl McGowan, and Elsie McGowan Dancy. 

He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ruby Kathryn Gilbert McGowan; daughter, Karol Beck (Ricky), all of Geneva, AL; son, Daniel Leonard McGowan, Jr. (Carol) of Hurricane, WV; four grandchildren, Abbie Beck Romeo (Scott) of Freeport, FL, Lydia Beck Langham (Trey) of Geneva, Daniel McGowan (Ana) of Richmond, VA, and James McGowan of Hurricane, WV; six great-grandchildren, Amelia Anne Langham, Lillian Paige Langham, Robert Beck Ellis, Kathryn Eliza Ellis, Julia Lynn Langham, and Anne Marie Romeo; sister, Annette Jonson of Loveland, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
