Earl Bryant Cosby

Earl was born May 9, 1931 to Robert (Bob) and Alice Cosby.  He was the youngest of 10 children.  He passed away June 6, 2017 at SAMC in Dothan after a long illness.  He was 86 years old. His family was with him when he passed. Earl was married to the love of his life, Clara Cosby, on December 17, 1949 celebrating 67 years this past December.

Home going services will be held Friday, June 9th at Antioch Baptist Church on Rocky Creek Rd. in Ashford, AL.  Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 pm and funeral at 1:30 pm.  Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons & great-grandson, longtime friend Willie Smith, family friends Jimmy Dupree and Vann Etheridge.  Honorary pallbearers will be great-grand sons, nephews and the Antioch Sr. Adult Sunday School Class.

Earl loved his church family at Antioch Baptist Church where he was a member of the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class, an ordained deacon and served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He enjoyed hosting the men’s group and cooking for them. He was ordained as a deacon in the early 1960’s at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Earl worked for many years with the Houston County Road & Bridge Dept. where he made many lifelong friends.

Survivors include sons, Dennis (Lisa) Cosby, Danny (Amber) Cosby, Donnie Cosby and daughter Gloria (Richard) Robertson, grandchildren, Chris (Heather) Robertson, Kyle (Christal) Robertson, Collin Robertson, Chase (Kylie) Etress, great-grandchildren, Tyler Fowler, Miley, Eli and Gunner Robertson and Jocelyn Etress, sisters-in-law Martha Jordan, Elouise (Loren) Sutton, Anne Collins, brother-in-law Lewell Collins, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert (Bob) and Alice Moody Cosby, and step-mother Timetha Hicks Cosby, daughters-in-law, Cathy Trawick Cosby and Lawanna Parker Cosby, three sisters, Lucille Cosby Johnson, Pauline Cosby Grubbs Preston, Essie Mae Cosby Huff, and six brothers, Mack Cosby, Charlie Cosby, Leroy Cosby, Russell Cosby, Ennis Cosby and Richard Cosby.

The family will gather at the home of Earl and Clara on Cosby Rd. in Ashford.
