Mr. James William Bowman, age 78, a resident of Dothan, passed away peacefully at his home early Tuesday May 2, 2017, following an extended illness.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Howard Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Don Clark and Dr. Richie Allen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ardilla, AL, including military honors and Masonic Rites with Kendall Glover directing.  Flowers will be accepted.


The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Glover Funeral Home.


James was employed by AAA-Cooper Transportation for 34 years.  He was a long time, dedicated member of Howard Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he served for several years as Trustee, Usher and Sound Man.  He was a devoted servant of God and his country.  He served in the Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis.  He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Dothan Lodge #466.


James was born on February 17, 1939 in Ozark, AL, the son of William and Clara Bell Bowman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Helen Brown, Marie Tipler, Merle Blake and Voncile Senn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otho and Ruby Kirkland.


He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Glenda Kirkland Bowman, a brother Billy Bowman (Pat) Ozark, AL; one sister: Betty Dietz, Ozark, AL; brother-in-law Ray Kirkland (Josie) and family, Nashville, TN; Tammy Masters, Nashville, TN; Troy Masters, Los Angeles, CA; and Godchildren Keith Maddox, Montgomery, AL; Kevin Maddox, Montgomery, AL and Julie Hughes, Malone, FL; and several loving nieces and nephews.


Active pallbearers are Keith Maddox, Kevin Maddox, Charles Whitman, Ray Ketcham, Jamie Bowman, Gary Jenkins and Tammy Masters.  Honorary pallbears are Donnie Senn, Ron Dietz, Don Dietz, Troy Masters, James A. Bowman, Louie Bowman, Joe Lewis, Jimmy Sims, Burl Greathouse, Stanley Greathouse, Tony McCord, James Payne, Curt Hamblin, Purnell Chancey and Maxwell Nelson.


The family would like to thank Kendra Duke, Geraldine Bennett, Lynda Campbell, the supervisors and staff of Kindred Hospice for their loving care.
