Mr. John Allen Whitney, age 85, a resident of Dothan, Alabama formerly of Chalmette, Louisiana, died Monday March 5, 2018 at the SAMC following an extended illness.

Glover Funeral Home will be in charge of cremation services and no memorial services will be held at this time.  The family request memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA. 22215.

Mr. Whitney was born on January 12, 1933 in Maynard, MA.  He moved to Chalmette, LA. In 1962 and then moved to Dothan in 2006 following hurricane Katrina.  Mr. Whitney retired as a long shoreman supervisor with River Rentals, Inc. in Chalmette, LA.  He was of the Catholic faith and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 25 years, Pearl Ann Schexnayder Whitney; 3 daughters, Edwina Parsons, Annie Mulholland and Darlene Duhe; 2 brothers & 3 sisters.

Survivors include: daughter, Robin Ann White (Chris), Dothan; 7 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
