Mr. Joseph C. “Judge” Sorrells, age 77, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday December 20, 2017 at Flowers Hospital after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday December 23, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Reverend Allie Freeman and Dr. James B. Sanders III officiating. Private family burial will follow at the Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery near Hartford with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services in the parlor at First United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL. 36301.

Mr. Sorrells was born on March 21, 1940 in Slocomb the son of Lathron Lee Sorrells and Girtha Stewart Sorrells.  He was a 1958 graduate of Geneva County High School in Hartford and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan.  Mr. Sorrells retired after 25 years of service as a Group Sales Manager with Liberty National Life Insurance Company and then he owned and operated Southside Furniture Store in Dothan for 10 years until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Doris Cole and Pauline Spivey.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Cherry Sorrells, Dothan; daughter, Starla Sorrells Moss, Dothan; son, Joe Sorrells, Dothan; 2 grandchildren, Hayden Moss, University of Alabama and Wesley Moss, Birmingham; sister, Betty Keel (Leon), Slocomb.

Active pallbearers will be: Burch Poole, Eria Sorrells, Lathron Spivey, Gerald Brannon, Johnny Keel, Bobby Keel and Paul Spivey.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Members of the Fellowship Bible Study and Kay Williams Sunday School Class.
