Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

Mr. Julian Haywood Shaw, 74, of Ozark, met Jesus face to face Thursday, May 10, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 12, 2018, from Southside Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Bynum officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Saturday in the church from 1:30 P.M. until service time.

Mr. Shaw was born October 21, 1943, in Barbour County, Alabama to the late Buford Shaw and Margaret Abercrombie Shaw. He lived a full, rich life in service to God, his family and his country. He joined the Air Force when he was 18 years old and served in Okinawa, Japan as a munitions specialist. He came home after his tour of duty and began to raise a family, working as a civilian at Fort Rucker. In 1973 he saw an opportunity to travel and live out of the country and took a job in Isfahan, Iran with Bell Helicopter. He and his family moved there for 5 1/2 years. Mr. Shaw was ordained as a pastor in Iran in 1978 and worked to successfully establish the First Baptist Church of Isfahan. He managed all this while raising a family in a foreign country and working a full-time job as well.  After moving home to Alabama, Mr. Shaw knew he was called to preach so he enrolled in and completed seminary, graduating with honors as well as pastoring churches part time. He later returned to work at Fort Rucker as an Armament Specialist and continued to preach and pastor. His greatest love was for his Lord and Savior then for his family, church, friends and neighbors. Mr. Shaw was a master carpenter and built with integrity, energy and a flair for precision. Late in life he became well known for his hand made wooden game, “Cards and Marbles”, which he made for all who enjoyed them.  More importantly than his carpentry talents were his ability to encourage and love on people. The more his health failed, the more grateful and encouraging he became. No one crossed his path that he didn’t thank and convey his love by a touch or big infectious smile. He enjoyed camping with the Good Sam’s camping club and cultivated a large group of loving friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Shaw.

Survivors include his wife of fourteen years, Peggy Sue Sheppard Shaw of Ozark, Alabama; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Charles Cook of Fairburn, Georgia, Lara Sue and Richard Morris of Millbrook, Alabama, Christina and Michael Audet of Hendersonville, North Carolina; four sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Sandra Shaw of Benton, Louisiana, Bruce and Karen Sedor of Warrior, Alabama, Tony Sedor of Warrior, Alabama and Christopher and Emily Hughes of Mobile, Alabama; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Leo Calhoun of Troy, Alabama, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Myrtle Shaw of Clio, Alabama, Reginald and Donna Shaw of Ozark, Alabama.  Twenty-four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
