Mr. Kenneth (Gus) New, age 79, a resident of Dothan, Alabama (formerly of Clio & Ozark), died Saturday February 10, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Fred Bacher and Reverend Bob Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to service time.

Interment with naval military honors will be held 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama with Rev. Fred Bacher officiating and Kendall Glover directing.

Flowers accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146 at Trinity, Florida 34655.

Mr. New was born on August 3, 1938 in Harlen County, Kentucky.  He he was retired as a E-9 Master Chief with the U.S. Navy following 24 years of service.  He received a Masters Degree in Child & Family Counseling and Drug & Alcohol Counseling from Christian Heritage College in El Cajon, California.  Mr. New then worked and retired from the State of Alabama where he worked at Ventress Correctional Facility and Easterling Correctional Facility in Barbour County.  He attended Cross Creek Junction and Ridgecrest Baptist Church and loved Jesus with all of his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Phillip Ray New, Sr. in 2003; sister, Dorothy Cummings; two brothers, Cecil & Bill New.

Survivors include: wife of 60 years, Wanda Balsinger New, Dothan, AL.; daughter, Connie Simpson New, Dothan, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Brett Lee Richardson, Merissa Faye Richardson, Phillip Ray New, Jr.(LaDeea), Alisha Lynn New, Kenny New and Kevin New; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kay New, Ohio.
