Mr. Larry E. Benton, age 72, a resident of Dothan passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at a local hospital surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at Cloverdale Baptist Church with Rev. Ray McKinnzie officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery (Hwy 431) with Glover Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends at Cloverdale Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to services. Flowers will be accepted and or memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Cloverdale Baptist Church, 806 Dexter St. Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Benton was born on October 19, 1943 in Black, Alabama the son of Fred O. Benton Sr. and Ora Belle Mercer Benton. He worked in sales and later became the manager of the HVAC Department of Lewis-Smith Supply Company for a total of 29 years prior to his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and supported his grandchildren in all their activities. He was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by parents; three brothers, Fred O Benton, Jr., James L. Benton, and I. J. Benton.
Survivors included: wife, Grace Jones Benton; son, Tim (Michelle) Benton, Dothan, AL; daughter, Allison (Rhett) Davis, Dothan, AL; five brothers, Raymon (Betty) Benton, Dothan, AL, Gerald (Jackie) Benton, Bonifay, FL, Jerome Benton, Newton, AL, Bobby Benton, Columbia, AL, Jimmy (Brenda) Benton, Jasper, AL; sister-in-law, Mary Benton, Dothan, AL; four grandchildren, Ashley Benton, Ryan Benton, Emma Grace Benton, and Tyler Davis.
