Mr. Robert Earl Spurlock, age 84, of Dothan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at his home after an extended illness.


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Trail officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Wednesday, November 15, 2017, prior to the service.


Flowers will be accepted or the family requests that contributions be made to First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 1461 Timbers Drive, Dothan, AL  36301.


Robert was born June 23, 1933 in Dale County, Alabama. His family moved to Georgetown, Georgia when he was 12. He served his country in the United States Navy and on the USS Monssen during the Korean War. He later moved to Dothan where he received a certificate in automotive repair at George C Wallace Trade School. Robert was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, junior boys Sunday School teacher and sang in the Adult Choir.


Robert was a passionate man who enjoyed working in the automotive industry for 46 years. For the last 27 years, he worked as the owner of Spurlock’s Automotive. In his spare time, he loved gardening, camping, tinkering around the house and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for telling funny stories of his real-life experiences.


Robert was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters, two brothers, and a very special grandson, Wesley Dunchof.


Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nell Swords Spurlock; his daughters, Angie (Michael) Adams of Dothan; Lisa (Bennie) Dobbs of Waynesville, NC; his son, Dwayne (Donna) Spurlock of Ashford; his grandchildren, Amber Davis, Lauren Wilcox, Aaron Clingerman, Joshua Spurlock, Emma Clingerman, Trenton Adams, Caleb Spurlock and Micah Spurlock; his great-grandchildren, Addison Davis, Ally Davis, Andrew Davis, Faith Wilcox and Harper Wilcox; his brother, Paul Spurlock; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. 


A special thank you to the Alacare Hospice staff, especially Melissa, April, Tresa, who did an excellent job caring for him and thank you to his caregivers, Sara Deese and Chris Oglesvy.
